Shiraz (100%)
Margaret River
We had a great Summer leading up to vintage, although a rain event about a week or so before the start of harvest lead to some unusually humid conditions (for Margaret River at least). Careful fruit selection in some vineyards was required as a result of the humidity, despite experiencing good weather during the white harvest. The end of the whites saw a bit more rain, which was then followed by fine weather for the rest of March setting up the Cabernets nicely. In summary 2021 was a more challenging season than usual, however the extra work in the vineyard ultimately paid dividends with some wonderfully elegant wines being produced as a result. All the fruit for this wine is estate grown and hand-picked from our Stevens Road vineyard in the Wallcliffe subregion of Margaret River.

Tasting Notes

Bright ruby red, this wine was unfined and unfiltered so a slight harmless deposit may appear in the bottom of the bottle over time.
Fresh bubble gum, red berry fruits and fragrant kirsch floral notes with hints of spice.
A light bodied ‘Beaujolais-esque’ summer red wine, offering vibrancy and verve with plenty of redcurrants, pomegranate, subtle spice and some earthy stemmy characters. The moreish, strawberry fruit profile and very soft approachable tannins combine to produce an energetic wine with bright crunchy acidity.

100% handpicked whole bunches underwent wild carbonic maceration in picking bins for two weeks under carbon dioxide cover. This was followed by gentle pressing before finishing primary and secondary fermentation in stainless steel tank. A short maturation on lees then followed before a careful racking and cold stabilisation. Bottled early, unfined and unfiltered.
