Margaret River
After a long, and relatively cold and wet winter budburst was later than usual, and about a week or two later than last season. There was still some wet, windy spring weather which affected fruit set. Despite the late start to the season, the fantastic WA summer allowed the growing season to catch up with warm, fine weather and a few of very hot periods. Marri trees had a bumper year for blossom, which always bodes well, distracting birds from away from the fruit (at least for the first half of the season while the blossom lasted). There was no significant weather pressure experienced at all early in the vintage, in fact the warm weather meant that the whites were harvested at a frenetic pace in order to preserve natural acidity. Yields were relatively low however the fruit quality was excellent with great flavour intensity. In summary 2022 will be remembered as an outstanding vintage in Margaret River. 100% Estate grown fruit from our Boodjidup and Stevens Road vineyards.

Tasting Notes

Pale Salmon.
The bouquet of this pretty, vibrant wine offers an array of cranberry and cherry blossom with a savoury, spicy thread of sandalwood derived from the Graciano component.
The palate is medium bodied; with pomegranate and wild plum flavours combined with zesty pink grapefruit. Lively and fruit driven yet also offering great texture and subtle mineral notes which all culminate in a crisp, dry savoury finish.

Both the Shiraz and the Graciano components were harvested cold and pressed immediately to minimise colour extraction in the juice. After settling each batch was fermented in tank at a cool temperature using an aromatic yeast strain to preserve the primary fruit characteristics.

This excellent rose is made from shiraz and Graciano, a variety that is not all that common in Australia, but which works rather well in this style. Bright berry notes with a slightly savoury influence. The palate is quite textured with penetrating flavours delivered with precision. Modern style and very good.
