2023 Vinework Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc has always played an historic role in many Xanadu Cabernet blends spanning back to the early 80’s. 100% of the fruit for this Cabernet Franc is from our oldest vineyard, the Lagan Estate. The last straight varietal Cabernet Franc was made in 1996!

Tasting Notes
Colour:Ruby red with a vibrant purple hue.
Nose:Subtley floral with aromas of raspberry, black plum and bay leaf.
Palate:Medium bodied wine with plush supple tannins supported by juicy forest fruits, cassis, dried herb, dark coco nib finish.
Cellar:Vibrant and eminently drinkable in its youth, this finely structured wine will also benefit from further bottle maturation and will reward short to medium term cellaring.

Conditions:A cold winter with reasonable rainfall led to late budburst. This was followed by a cool wet spring, allowing extended flowering, good fruit-set and higher than average yields. A lack of Marri blossom leading up to and during harvest meant that bird pressure was extreme. In summary 2023 was an excellent vintage.

Winemaking Notes:Fruit was destemmed and lightly crushed before small batch fermentation in a static fermenter. The cap was managed using aerative pumping over for 6-7 days before gentle pressing.
