2024 Xanadu Flagship Release: The Pinnacle of Quality
At Xanadu, our passion for crafting world-class wines is matched only by our commitment to nurturing the exceptional vineyards of Margaret River. We are thrilled to share the fruits of our dedication and some fantastic vintages with you with our 2024 Flagship Release. This annual release marks the unveiling of our most esteemed wines of their vintage, the Reserve and Stevens Road ranges, each a testament to the unique terroir and meticulous craftsmanship that define Xanadu.
A Year Without Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
This year, in line with our unwavering commitment to quality, we have decided not to release a Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2021 vintage, while producing excellent fruit, did not meet the exceptional standards we set for our Reserve label. Instead, much of this high-quality fruit has been cascaded into our Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon. The most recent vintage for which we made this decision was 2016, which saw the Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon go on to win the prestigious Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy, a testament to the extraordinary potential of our Xanadu range.
Introducing the 2024 Flagship Wines
We are proud to present the new vintages of our Reserve and Stevens Road wines, limited in production and unmatched in quality. This year’s release includes:
- 2022 Reserve Chardonnay (98 points – Ray Jordan)
- 2022 Stevens Road Chardonnay (98 points – Ray Jordan)
- 2021 Stevens Road Cabernet Sauvignon (96 points – Jane Faulkner)
- 2021 Stevens Road Malbec (very limited release)
Tasting Notes
2022 Reserve Chardonnay
Sourced exclusively from our oldest Chardonnay vineyard, the Lagan Estate, this refined Chardonnay displays classic Margaret River intensity. Fresh pear, lime and roasted cashew notes with hints of frangipani characterise its powerful aroma. The medium-bodied palate of the 2022 Reserve Chardonnay presents pear puree, zesty grapefruit and a mineral edge, with pristine fruit and tangy acidity culminating in a crisp finish.
2022 Stevens Road Chardonnay
This modern, refined Chardonnay boasts classic Margaret River hallmarks, with delicate white stone fruits, citrus, and floral notes. The medium-bodied palate of the 2022 Stevens Road Chardonnay offers white peach and lemon/lime flavours, with a saline tang, underpinned by a mineral structure and bracing acidity leading to a crisp, lingering finish.
2021 Stevens Road Cabernet Sauvignon
This is our 12th Cabernet release from the Stevens Road vineyard, offering a unique expression of this special site. Medium-bodied, the elegant palate of the 2021 Stevens Road Cabernet Sauvignon offers black plums and boysenberry characters, with fine tannins culminating in a beautifully structured wine with a distinct, lingering Cabernet finish.
2021 Stevens Road Malbec
Our fourth release of this wine highlights the outstanding quality and unique personality of Malbec from our special vineyard. Wonderfully perfumed, the 2021 Stevens Road Malbec displays striking aromas of spicy, ripe mulberries and violets, with hints of graphite and white pepper. The generous, full-bodied palate is layered with inky, dark fruits, black plums, and ripe blueberries. A truly limited and remarkable release.
