Tasting Notes
Colour:Deep red with purple hues.
Nose:Intense aromas offering brooding dark fruits; ripe blackberries and violets with hints of graphite and white pepper in the background.
Palate:The full-bodied palate is generously layered with inky forest fruits; black plums and dark chocolate all framed by fine French oak. Dense tannins and a firm acid backbone contribute to the robust structure, while the plump fruit persists through to a lingering finish.
Viticulture
Varietal:Malbec (100%)
Vintage:2022
Region:Margaret River
Conditions:2022 will be remembered as an outstanding vintage in Margaret River. After a long winter, budburst was later than usual, and about a week or two later than last season. The warm weather that followed meant that the whites were harvested at a frenetic pace in order to preserve natural acidity. Marri trees had a bumper year for blossom, distracting birds away from the fruit. Yields were relatively low; however, the fruit quality was excellent with great flavour intensity.
Winemaking
Alcohol:14%
Bottle Size:750ml
pH:3.55
Winemaking Notes:This 3-tonne parcel of fruit was crushed/destemmed then fermented in several small fermenters for 6 days at 24 – 28o C, during which the cap was managed by pumping over and regular plunging by hand. The wine was gently pressed at 2 Baume and finished ferment and malolactic fermentation in tank. Once dry, the wine was racked to fine French oak barriques (40% new) where it was matured for 14 months before the best barrels were selected for this tiny blend.
